Orinda police are investigating the cause of a harrowing crash on Dalewood Drive that sent two construction workers to the hospital Thursday.

Police Chief Mark Nagel said a lone male driver in a BMW was headed down Dalewood at about 1:05 p.m. when for reasons still unknown the vehicle veered to the shoulder and into two parked construction trucks – and a group of workers employed at a job site nearby.

Two workers standing next to their trucks were hit, according to Nagel, and both were taken to area hospitals for treatment. One man may have suffered a broken leg. The other man’s injuries were undetermined as of this writing.

The driver of the BMW, a local man in his 50s, was not injured, Nagel said, though the vehicle’s airbags did deploy. Preliminary evidence indicates there was no attempt to stop the vehicle prior to the crash though any final determination of cause will only be made after more thorough investigation, Nagel said.
