Driver Rams Power Pole In Moraga Thursday; Touches Off Spot Fires, Outages

A crash in the 1100 block of Moraga Road – across from the Moraga Skatepark – damaged power poles and dropped live wires in the area Thursday afternoon – briefly knocking out power to the surrounding neighborhood and touching off a couple of small spot fires.

Residents were made aware of the crash at around 3:25 p.m. as lights flickered and then died. Bystanders reported the wreckage of a car on Moraga Road across from the skate park and responding police officers were on scene in minutes.

A kid in a brown t-shirt was filming in the area “with a really nice camera” and may have captured more than he bargained for – or so we are told.

Moraga Road is closed (4:37 p.m.) between Corliss and St. Mary’s Road and will be until 5 a.m. Friday while PG&E works on those compromised poles.

  1. For a ‘quiet’ suburban road that stretch sees its share of automotive mishap. Didn’t we have a couple of fatal incidents in there? What’s it posted for? 25? 35?
