PG&E submitted a report detailing existing gas lines under Lafayette along with their plan to safely maintain those lines – a plan which calls for the cutting of a significant number of local trees – to the City Council Wednesday.
In a letter and accompanying report to the council, the manager of PG&E’s Community Gas Pipeline Safety Initiative outlines the utility’s rationale for culling the trees despite the opposition of some neighbors who have argued that taking trees is both unlawful and unnecessary.
The report details PG&E’s ongoing gas safety and maintenance efforts and “planned pipeline safety projects within the city,” along with information on their plans for an emergency response and ways to prevent damage to any of the lines.
Taking beautiful trees down is not a good thing. But neither is exploding gas lines.
