As we first reported, a series of fires – described as “small” but numbering seven in total and thus considered suspicious – were reported at Sequoia Elementary School in Pleasant Hill Monday evening and are being investigated today by Contra Costa County Fire Protection District officials.
The fires were first reported shortly after 8:20 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke in the area, with one blaze causing “limited” damage to an interior breezeway, according to Fire Prevention Captain George Laing.
Laing said the cause of the fires are currently under investigation but that they were considered of suspicious origin.
Laing said firefighters found evidence of seven fires in total, all small. No details were given as to how they were set. One was reportedly burning at a school play structure.
No estimate of damage, or whether any actual damage was caused by the spot fires, was given.
