Orinda Teen In Custody After Allegedly Assaulting Worker At Moraga Taco Bell Sunday

SHARE

An Orinda teen who allegedly assaulted a worker at the Moraga Taco Bell location on Moraga Road Sunday is in custody and facing a charge of aggravated assault after witnesses said he jumped the counter at the business and began throwing punches.

The unnamed worker was hospitalized as a result of the assault, according to police, and the juvenile suspect was eventually arrested after fleeing the area by car. His name was not given due to his age.

Moraga police investigators said Monday that the incident, which occurred at 2:20 p.m. and briefly closed the restaurant as police conducted their investigation, has been referred to the juvenile division of the district attorney’s office for review.

Investigators said the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation but the suspect and victim were “not strangers” and it does not appear to be a transaction gone wrong.

  1. No excuses for violence, but the counter people at the Moraga Taco Bell can be rude and obnoxious.

I went in there two weeks ago and walked out mid-order because the young guy taking my order was so off-putting.

They had a manager there recently who would berate and degrade his own employees in front of customers. I saw this behavior more than once.

Again, no excuse for violence, and I have no idea what happened Sunday, but like they say, it takes two to tango…

  2. I have to say it does seem that people are angrier about small things lately. I have nothing by witnessed incidents to base that on but in my opinion people are more aggressive and willing to fight for the slightest reason. I’m sure there is another side to this story but it is still hard to believe and harder to understand.

  3. I feel sorry for those workers sometimes. They have to put up with a lot and there are a lot of self entitiled people around here who think they are here to be served. Hope the person recovers.

I work retail part-time, and you’re right, there is something in the air lately. My co-workers noticed that customers started coming in angry and looking for confrontation during the heat wave, which is somewhat expected. Usually things will settle back down, but tensions have been high even after two weeks of great weather.

Moraga really is unique in the common discourtesy, rudeness, and entitlement of a FEW of the people. 95% of the customers are great even if they’re having a bad day. But that 5% of nasty people who come in the door looking for a fight… There’s a special place in hell reserved for them.

As for the bad workers, each business location has its own culture, and it’s hard to shake. The McDonald’s in Lafayette is a pretty miserable place to visit. It’s dirty and the workers look miserable. The Jack in the Box just down the street is clean and the workers always seem pretty happy. I avoid the Moraga Taco Bell until I forget, and then I’m quickly reminded why I avoid it.

Having read what I just wrote, I think I need a week off from fast food!
