At the height of a raging brush fire in Moraga on Monday a sharp-eyed Lafayette PD officer spotted a pickup truck reported stolen in Moraga as it rolled along Moraga Road and into their jurisdiction.
The call was raised and Moraga police diverted their attention from the fire raging in town long enough to stop the truck – with help from their colleagues in Lafayette – and detain the man behind the wheel, something that was apparently witnessed by several NEWS24/680 readers that day.
But it what was in the back seat of the truck that proved to be most surprising for police.
While multiple charges of theft are pending against the driver of the truck, identified as 33-year-old Leonard Lakhan of Richmond, officers were most surprised to discover a child, less than a year old and believed to be Lakhan’s, who was found riding in the back seat, apparently none the worse for wear.
Investigators also reported finding several items allegedly stolen from local cities and towns in the truck. Those items were booked into evidence and Child Protective Services was notified to take custody of the infant.
Was the baby in on the thefts? Wearing a red, white and blue onesie PROP 47 RULES.
@Danielle – The imagery. Well, if he wasn’t the ringleader at least all the brainpower was in the back seat that day…
Maybe he’s trying to train the child to follow in his dads footsteps.
