String Of Car Fires Continues; Orinda Incident Unrelated – Investigators Say

SHARE

An undetermined number of car fires reported in the 24/680 area and beyond and ranging as far back as earlier this year are related, Contra Costa County Fire Investigators have determined, and they are asking for help in tracking down the person or persons responsible.

Investigators said the exact number of suspicious fires is unknown, as is cause of one that consumed a car in the driveway of a home at 114 Lombardy Lane in Orinda Thursday – but they advise vehicle owners to remain cautious and ask anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact them.

Fires have been reported in Lafayette, Walnut Creek, Martinez and Brentwood. If you live in an area where there has been a recent car fire, and you have any information that may be of use, such as camera footage, noticing strange vehicles or people in the area, or anything that is out of the ordinary, contact investigators through the Arson Tip Line at 1-866-50-ARSON.

The Lombardy Lane fire, which gutted a car at that location Thursday afternoon, was likely mechanical in origin, according to Capt. George Laing.
