Martinez police were able to locate, stop, and arrest a man they believe took a car by force near Blue Ridge Road Monday – ultimately booking their suspect for carjacking and for violating the terms of his probation.

Officers reported the incident occurred at about 11 a.m. Monday when an officer on patrol was flagged down by a citizen who reported a vehicle had just been stolen – the car last seen heading west on Blue Ridge Dr.

Investigators reported that the area was searched and the vehicle was located traveling north on Alhambra Valley Rd. near Gilbert Ct., with police able to stop the car and detain the driver – identified as Clayton Conroy, 31, who was the only occupant.  Conroy’s hometown was not provided.

Police said the car’s owner responded and identified Conroy as the person who stole his vehicle from his presence with force.  The driver was not injured and Conroy was booked into county jail for carjacking and for violating his probation terms.

  1. The part of the story that stands out the most to me, is the statement that he ‘was out om parole’. We’re hearing this in almost every story of a crime being done. Maybe it’s time to start locking people up again?

  2. I agree with Greg. We need to get tougher on crime, but even that won’t stop criminals. Criminals commit crimes for the same reason the rest of us go to work every day. It’s what they do for a living.

  3. The person arrested is a multiple DUI offender, with past obstruction/evasion counts as well as one for burglary.

A real gem of a person.
