A Blackhawk resident was arrested and booked at the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of criminal threats and battery after a strange and reportedly violent attack on his Uber driver.

John McSherry, 53, of Blackhawk was arrested at about 11:04 p.m. the evening of March 2, shortly after guards at the gated community’s front entrance reported a violent altercation in the front seat of an Uber Nissan that had just pulled up.

The driver, whose name was not immediately available, reportedly abandoned his car and fled to the safety of the guard shack to escape a series of blows from McSherry, who was apparently upset with the way the person was driving.

Sheriff’s investigators said the driver was taking McSherry home when the passenger allegedly threatened to “slit his throat” and began punching him about the head, continuing the assault from the front passenger seat of the Nissan.

The driver declined medical attention.

Deputies said McSherry was arrested at the scene, was booked, and was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail but has since bailed out.

  1. I have no personal knowledge of this case. I am glad the driver was not seriously injured. But I can say there are definitely some self entitled country club thugs whose best days were spent at their respective frat houses running around this valley and they are not fun people.

  2. I’ll never understand the mindset of “shared economy.” It’s highly unregulated, and dangerous. The only thing you’re really sharing is a higher risk. Until people wake up and smell the coffee and realize the risks outweigh the benefits, sadly, this will continue.
