The good folks at Lindsay Wildlife Experience in Walnut Creek took in a storm-battered, plastic-ingesting beaver found a little the worse for wear at Joe Henderson Elementary in Benicia earlier this month, nursed him back to health and celebrated his return to his lodge Thursday.

The 50-pound critter was released back into the open space in Benicia, took to his release like a, well, a beaver to water and was even given a tail thumping welcome by another beaver the folks at Lindsay surmised may have been his mate.

A spokesperson at Lindsay said the critter was the first of his species taken in by Lindsay, treated, and released since 1996, and despite their dense fur, broad tail and swimming abilities they don’t always fare well in inclement weather.

And then there’s the matter of that plastic object, which the Alpha Species needs to work on clearing up a little. Ahem.

Anyway, huzzahs to the little guy for getting out of hospital and we hope things go well at the lodge from here on out!
