Walnut Creek police investigators announced the recovery of stolen work vehicles and tools taken during a series of car thefts in recent months. Video of one of the thefts apparently spawned a lead and information which lead to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of many of the stolen tools.
In each of the robberies Ford Econoline work vans were targeted, according to police, with thieves driving off with the vehicles, removing the tools inside and then abandoning the trucks in Martinez and Pacheco.
Based on information received from an anonymous citizen, arrest warrants were issued and three people were arrested, according to police. A search warrant at a residence on Robinson Street in Martinez turned up numerous tools and electronic items taken during the thefts. An unregistered handgun, ammunition and suspected narcotics were also located, police said.
Police arrested three people for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, and conspiracy:
- Michael Wiese, 28, Martinez (additionally charged with felon in possession of a firearm.)
- Melissa Cavino, 30, Martinez
- Jacob Speace, 37, Pacheco
The Walnut Creek police department seized numerous other hand tools, power tools, and electronic items. Some of the items had markings of “ATT Norcal Crew”, “BOYT”, “JATO”, and “4158 SEMP” on them. There was also a flight bag with flight instruction books and a headset located.
The WCPD is asking for any assistance to locate any victims whose property was possibly recovered during the service of the search warrant. They can contact Detective Vevera at 925-943-5875 or Vevera@walnutcreekpd.com
