Las Lomas High School initiated its school lockdown protocol Thursday after a nearby police action, though police say neither the campus or its students were threatened at any time.
Lt. Jay Hill said Walnut Creek officers were recovering an abandoned stolen car in the Creekside Drive area of the city Thursday morning when an individual approached the car, spotted police, and ran off.
Officers initiated a 20-minute search for the individual but did not find him, Hill said, with the school asking if it was necessary to lock down the campus and then doing so out of an abundance of caution.
This site fielded a number of inquiries from both parents and student (thanks for writing!) but Hill and other police officials stressed the school and its student were not in any danger.
Las Lomas lifted its lockdown order around 10 a.m.
An abundance of caution – I guess you have to play that way. Things have changed.
