Two young people were arrested Tuesday evening after running from the scene of an accident on Mt. Diablo Boulevard, their car ramming another driven by a retired lawman.

Police were in the area looking for a car reported driving recklessly near Trader Joe’s around 7 p.m. when the car hit the second vehicle, a juvenile male and female abandoning the car and running off in the direction of the Lafayette BART station.

Police said the pair grabbed property from the car as they were abandoning it. It was later found to have been stolen earlier in Oakland.

A perimeter was quickly established with a helicopter called on to help look for the pair, who were found hiding in the bushes near the BART station.

Both were booked at Juvenile Hall, according to police.

  1. If you’re going to steal a car, try not to ram a retired lawman and then flee the scene. At least during the holidays…
