Help for a San Ramon man seriously injured during a confrontation with four youths causing a disturbance in his neighborhood have surpassed expected goals with more than $15,000 in donations sent in to help defray his medical expenses.

The neighbor, Casey Pletz, was knocked down by one of four young people during a confrontation near Walt Disney Elementary school last Saturday night, Pletz taking numerous blows and kicks as he lay unconscious, according to neighbors.

Pletz suffered a broken nose, fractured cheekbone, a bruised kidney, and numerous cuts and bruises over his body.

Neighbors deemed his actions – and those of another neighbor who intervened in a successful effort to halt the attack that night – “heroic.” One, Pamela Schulze, started a GoFundMe page to help with medical costs.

As of Monday morning, it stood at $15,950, over goal and tendered by 252 local contributors.

The four – two 17-year-old juveniles, a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old – were arrested soon after the incident and booked on a variety of felony charges.
