Blown Transformer Darkens Homes In Moraga Saturday Morning

Orinda darkened after power lines brought down.

A blown transformer in the area of Larch Avenue and Canyon Road knocked out power to the area Saturday morning, immobilized a person briefly surrounded by live power lines and made a resident’s lawn smoke.

The incident was first reported as a transformer pole on fire in the area around 9:08 a.m., with Moraga-Orinda Fire District and Moraga police responding to find live wires down in the area and residents reporting a variety of issues related to the sudden, resultant blackout.

Homeowners were advised to stay in their residences while PG&E was summoned to power down the lines. An accurate count of the number of homes blacked out in the area was not immediately available. No injuries reported. A PG&E repair crew was on the scene at 9:55 a.m. and power was restored for most homeowners by around 10:15 a.m.
