Arson Investigators Looking For Iron Horse Trail Firebug

Announcement released today by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District:

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District’s Fire Investigation Unit is actively investigating a series of suspicious fires along the Iron Horse Trail that runs both sides of Monument Boulevard. Many of the fires are believed to be arson. Because this is an active and ongoing investigation, specific details about the fires are not being released at this time.

We are asking for the public’s help that live in the area or frequent that part of the trail to report any suspicious persons or activities by calling 911 and reporting it to the police. We are working closely with both Concord and Pleasant Hill Police Departments as well as the East Bay Regional Park Police while attempting to identify the responsible or responsibles.

You can help by being vigilant. If you see a fire, call 911 immediately and note the description of anyone seen watching or leaving the area of the fire. Residents and property owners can also help by reducing any potential flammable fuels by removing dry vegetation or property from any area adjacent to the trail.

If you have information or leads for investigators you can call the Fire Investigation Unit at 925-942-9140 or the arson tip line at 1-866-50-ARSON (1-866-502-7766)
