On September 13 at around 3:17 pm, Antioch Police officers located a stolen Mercedes parked on Plymouth Lane off Hillcrest with a subject getting into the vehicle. That subject was later identified as Ryan Kary, 27, of Lafayette.

Officers converged on the vehicle and attempted to take Kary into custody. While ordering Kary out of the car, he allegedly put the car in reverse and struck an officer who was out of his vehicle.

The officer drew his firearm and fired shots into the vehicle. With the Mercedez now backed into the officer’s vehicle, Kary indicated he was giving up. Kary was pulled from the vehicle and further resisted being taken into custody, according to police.

Kary was treated and released on scene for minor injuries sustained during his struggle with officers. The officer struck by the vehicle Kary was driving showed no immediate sign of injury.

Nobody was struck by the gunshots. Kary will be booked into the Contra Costa County Jail on charges to include Auto Theft and Assault with a Deadly Weapon on an Officer.

This case is still under investigation.

  1. Forgive my slightly off sense of humor, but this must be a first, when a Lafayette man goes to Antioch to do a crime over; usually it’s the other way around 🙂
