Lafayette police have called off their search of the city’s downtown after a man walked into the US Bank on Mt. Diablo Boulevard and robbed it Tuesday afternoon.
The incident was reported at around 4:40 p.m. after a man described as a Hispanic male in his mid to late 40s, 5′ 6″ tall with a medium build, dark hair, goatee with grey in it walked into the bank, approached a teller and demanded cash.

The suspect left the bank with money in hand. He was last seen wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt and a black baseball cap with FOX across the front.
Police searched the area with ground personnel and a canine tracking team – a helicopter orbiting overhead – but no trace of the suspect was found. A local convalescent hospital was briefly locked down while police searched the area.
BART trains were instructed to roll through Lafayette station without stopping in an effort to cut off that avenue of escape. Full service was restored by 6 p.m.
Looks like he came in from his lunch break to rob the bank.
