Detectives from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff are investigating two consecutive burglaries at a home in unincorporated Martinez in which thieves made off with pieces of contemporary bronze statuary and – apparently unsatisfied – came back the next day for a truck.
Investigators said the first incident was reported on Friday, July 15,at about 9:10 p.m. in the 5000 block of Alhambra Valley Road. Responding sheriff’s deputies found that a residence there had been burglarized and several pieces had been stolen.
Items taken in the burglaries include a number of bronze statues, including: Marc Anthony, 8 feet tall, a tri-colored Cleopatra, 8-1/2 feet tall, a tri-colored 4-foot-tall Lady Justice, two bronze tiger statues, three bronze drinking pitchers, whiskey decanters, an MK tile saw and a mink-like coat.
The next day at about 1 p.m., deputies returned to the home to take a second burglary report. That same evening at about 8 p.m., a truck parked in the driveway of the home was stolen, investigators reported.
The truck is described as a white 1995 Dodge 3500, extended cab with California license plate—5Y33805. Investigators said many of the items stolen were distinctive and they asked anyone with any information on the burglaries or the whereabouts of the stolen items to contact the Investigation Division at (925) 313-2661. Ouch. Hope they didn’t pay much for them. When I was staging houses we used to have a warehouse full of them to fill up odd corners and stuff. Michael Jackson was a big fan I hear. But hopefully they do give the recyucle guy a moments pause when they turn up at the incinerator. Hope they get them back.
