In a wild afternoon for Lamorinda police, Orinda officers received a call from a homeowner of a suspected residential burglary in progress at their own residence Wednesday.
Police said the resident was at home with her baby on Wild Plum Way when she saw an adult or juvenile black man walk into the house from the back door. She screamed and he ran away, according to police.
Officers responded after receiving the call at 11:14 a.m. and set up a perimeter while calling for assistance from surrounding jurisdictions. Orinda BART was temporarily shut down but “apparently it was to late,” according to Chief Mark Nagel.
A man matching the description was seen on the Lafayette station platform and police descended on Lafayette to continue the search with help from Lafayette and Moraga PD. BART personnel saw the subject walk away from the platform to downtown Lafayette and a second perimeter was set up with assistance from air support and police canine units from BART and Walnut Creek.
Despite the heavy police presence, the subject was never located.
