In a generous gesture of support from a long-standing American ally and namesake of sports-crazy Lafayette, Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette – known to locals simply as “The General” – exhibited his support of a certain local sports team by donning their shirt Wednesday.

Sarah David noticed the statue of the French aristocrat and military officer who lent Lafayette its name and who stands silent vigil over the town was preparing for a new fight and had obviously chosen sides yet again.
