An 85-year-old Mill Valley man was killed in a pre-dawn accident on southbound Interstate 680 at the Marina Vista Road offramp Monday, the California Highway Patrol briefly closing the freeway while conducting their investigation into the crash.
The crash was reported at 2:32 a.m. in the fast lanes of the freeway, with initial reports that a person had been seriously injured when an Infiniti had crashed into the center divider of the freeway, seriously injuring the driver.
The motorist was taken to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek but was later declared dead. It was not immediately known what caused the vehicle to lose control and crash. His name has not yet been released.
CHP investigators briefly closed southbound I-680 to facilitate their investigation into the crash, reopening the freeway by 4 a.m.
