A motorcycle accident on northbound I-680 at Stone Valley snarled traffic for more than an hour Wednesday – prompting some creative driving maneuvers by motorists hoping to avoid the stoppage.
Reader calls and emails swamped the NEWS24/680 Tip Line shortly after California Highway Patrol officers shut down the fast lanes of I-680 at Stone Valley at 7:43 a.m. A SigAlert and full closure was called shortly afterward and drivers fumed in the resultant traffic jam – some of them backing off the freeway to the amazement of others.
The unidentified motorcyclist was reportedly conscious and alert after the crash, with several people going to his aid. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and we have no firm word on his condition.
The wreckage of his motorcycle, left in a few major pieces on the highway, were the focus of attention for drivers passing through the accident scene when the lanes were reopened and traffic allowed through again at 9:17 a.m.
