Pedestrian struck on Walnut Avenue Saturday night.

Two people were killed in a two-car crash on northbound Interstate 680 at the Contra Costa Blvd. offramp in Pleasant Hill Sunday evening.

Coroner’s deputies identified Emilio Lopez, 69, as the driver and Maria Lopez, 68, as his passenger. The pair, both Pleasant Hill residents, were seriously injured in the crash and died later in the hospital.

A second passenger, a 78-year-old woman, was also injured but has been listed in stable but critical condition.

As we first reported on our Facebook page, the cars tangled and lost control on the off-ramp and struck a guardrail late Sunday evenint, scattering debris onto city streets below.

Witnesses reported significant damage to both vehicles and at least two people trapped in one car.

California Highway Patrol officers promptly closed the off-ramp as rescuers worked to extricate the motorists.

The off-ramp was closed for several hours.
