Lamorinda Police Pursue Suspected Mail Thieves From Moraga Onto Highway 24 Tuesday

SHARE

Sharp-eyed Moraga residents apparently tipped police to a Ford F150 truck cruising slowly through their neighborhood and apparently saw two men inside stealing mail from at least one home on Greenfield Drive Tuesday.

Officers from Moraga and Orinda tailed the truck and its occupants onto westbound Highway 24 where it accelerated away at speed and they are following.

The truck was first observed about 11:50 a.m. Officers said they were ultimately unable to locate the truck, which was reported occupied by two Hispanic men.

Local police – and residents – have been especially vigilant lately as mail theft cases spike over the Holidays, with reports of thieves tailing postal and other delivery trucks and spiriting away packages left on an unguarded porch.

Moraga police issued an admonition about the uptick in the crime just yesterday, Monday.

    • Perhaps law enforcement would weigh in here, Anne, but for now it should be known that police are concerned with creating any scenario which could cause injury to the citizenry. They evaluate their pursuits based on conditions, speed, and severity of the offense. Often they settle for alerting neighboring agencies and securing warrants for the suspects at a later date unless a serious crime has been committed or there’s an imminent threat to the public.
