Pedestrian struck on Walnut Avenue Saturday night.

One person was killed when their car overturned and caught fire on southbound I-680 at Livorna Road in Alamo Friday.

California Highway Patrol officers called for a SIG alert after the crash was reported at 2:44 a.m., first responders finding a car overturned and burning on the Livorna Road offramp.

It was determined that a person, believed to be the driver, was dead inside the vehicle.

CHP Officer John Fransen said the accident occurred at 2:40 a.m., when an as-yet unidentified man driving a 1999 Acura on the southbound I-680 off-ramp to Livorna Road lost control of the car while traveling at a high rate of speed. The Acura impacted with a guardrail, careened down an embankment, and then struck a tree, Fransen said, the car overturning and landed on its passenger side facing in a northerly direction on the off-ramp – where it burst into flames with the driver still trapped inside.

The driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene, Fransen said.
