A 56-year-old Walnut Creek woman died after being hit by a car at Treat Blvd. and Candalero Drive Monday morning.
The accident was reported at 7:51 a.m. Witnesses reported seeing a car of unknown description run a red light at the intersection, striking the woman as she was in the crosswalk crossing Treat and ultimately colliding with a second car.
The unidentified pedestrian was transported to John Muir Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 9:15 a.m., according to police. No other injuries were reported.
Eastbound lanes of Treat Blvd. from Cherry Lane to Bancroft Road were closed during the investigation into the accident with all lanes reopened at 1:05 p.m.
Readers who contacted NEWS24-680 complained that the intersection is frequently the scene of accidents and near missed and that they have complained about the danger in the past.

Drivers think that Treat Blvd. is a speedway and I’ve witnessed several cars attempting to beat the light. I walk everywhere and it’s scary to see these cars running the lights at high speeds. Have to be extra careful that I’ve waited to start the crosswalk and made sure that I’ve made eye contact with drivers.
