For the third day in a row thieves behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle have steered toward Lamorinda – in this case abandoning a purloined work truck in the 100 block of Moraga Way Saturday night.
Two people were arrested at gunpoint after leading officers – and at least one airship – on a twisty chase from Blackhawk up the 680 Corridor to Orinda, turning off the freeway where three people inside jumped from the truck as it was still running and made a break for it on foot.
A waiting canine officer and another Danville police officer made the arrests, at gunpoint, at approximately 8:50 p.m.
Police said a 16-year-old Antioch resident is facing charges as a result of the chase. Lt. Allan Shields reported that the incident began at approximately 8:30 p.m. when Danville Police Officer Emily Neabeack attempted to stop a truck and trailer driving on Camino Tassajara at Old Blackhawk Rd. after a check of the vehicle showed it as stolen.
The driver fled, and a pursuit began. Other officers, including the Danville Police K-9 unit, joined in the pursuit. The pursuit ended on Moraga Way in Orinda, when the driver and two passengers abandoned the vehicle and fled.
Officer Tyler Nelson and K9 Rony apprehended the driver, during which time the suspect received minor injuries. The two passengers were apprehended without incident. The driver was transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he was treated for his injuries and then released into police custody.
The driver, whose name was not given because of his age, was charged with unlawful taking of a vehicle, reckless evading of a police officer and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Contra Costa Juvenile Hall. The two passengers, also teenagers, were released into the custody of their parents.
Regular readers of this site will know that tonights arrests make the third day in a row a stolen car or truck has been chased to Lamorinda – with one ending up in Canyon on Thursday night, another in Lafayette on Friday morning, and tonight’s action which ended in Orinda.
NEWS24-680 has no insight into why stolen cars and their driver are steering for Lamorinda, but apparently – they are.

My guess would be car thieves are steering towards Lamorinda because they think it’s an easy place to get lost. Or casing their next burglary……

Why is this happening so much?
I saw that chase from the stoplight at Camino Ramon and sycamore valley road in Danville and was convinced the speeding u-haul was going to tip over as they turned onto the 680 N on ramp with 6 police cars chasing it. Sounds like no one got in an accident as a result but it looked super dangerous and it went all the way to Orinda?!? Stupid thieves!
I hold my breath every time you report one of these. We’ve been lucky so far. I hope we can keep on being lucky.
