Suspected Car Thief Abandons Vehicle In Canyon; Escapes On Foot

SHARE

Lamorinda officers assisted Concord police this evening after a suspected car thief led police on a chase into Canyon, abandoning a stolen custom ’85 Chevy pickup truck and disappearing on foot into the wooded area near the Canyon Post Office.

Sources said Concord police spotted the vehicle, stolen in Walnut Creek Wednesday as reported by our brother site Claycord, and initiated a pursuit which took them into Moraga and ended near the Canyon post office on Pinehurst Road around 6 p.m.

Officers said the suspect, described as a white male adult with short brown hair wearing a red shirt and brown pants, bailed out of the vehicle and fled into the wooded area near the post office on foot. He was still being sought as of 8 p.m.

Canyon residents reported receiving polite knocks on their doors from pursuing police officers, asking if they had seen the wanted man.

Claycord tells us that the truck’s grateful owner had the truck returned to him last night.
