Morning Report: Another Home Burns In Alamo; Drowning In San Ramon

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters raked through the embers of a home which caught fire and burned furiously in the 400 block of Crest Avenue Thursday morning – the second destructive residential fire in Alamo this week.

Thursday’s blaze was first reported at 1:26 a.m. and remains “hot” in places this morning. Firefighters are on the scene to deal with flareups.

Firefighters said the lone occupant of the residence was awakened by her smoke detector and fled through a rear door, dressed only in her robe and pajamas.

The 4,000 square foot house was almost a total loss although firefighters were able to save the garage and cars. Firefighters reported the home was almost completely engulfed by the time they arrived – a similar situation to a destructive house fire on Vernal Drive on Monday – and their job became one to keep the fire from spreading.

And, as first reported on our Facebook page last night, Valley Fire – and San Ramon police – were called on earlier in the evening when a co-inhabitant of a home on Loreto Dr. arrived home to find a man who rented a portion of the residence submerged in a spa.

Police said they were on scene almost immediately, pulled the man – described only as being in his late 50s – from the hot tub and began CPR. Officers continued life saving measures until San Ramon Valley Fire Paramedics arrived and took over. The man was transported by San Ramon Valley Fire to the San Ramon Regional Medical Center and pronounced deceased by the attending physician, according to police.

His name has not been released pending notification of his relatives.
