Firefighters from the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District, in a flurry of reported fires in their area, were directed to a fully involved residential structure fire at 195 Vernal in Alamo Monday but were unable to save the home.

Smoke was reported in the area at 2:30 p.m. with the first firefighters on the scene arriving to find the home on fire, wires down in the area and fire extending into a nearby field.

The owner of the home escaped safely. Occupants of adjacent homes were evacuated as the fight to save the home went on.

Traffic in the area was severely impacted by responding police and fire vehicles and residents were advised to steer clear, if possible. Parents at Alamo Elementary School were believed to have been cleared to pick up their children through fire officials stressed that the situation is “changing” and immediate advisories may be issued, as needed.
