Update per CHP (7:02am)
We are saddened to report that at approximately 6:40 PM last night a Brentwood woman was struck and killed while riding her ten-speed bicycle. She was riding her bicycle along the right side of the westbound lane of Balfour Road, east of Sellers Avenue.
A 29-year-old Brentwood man was driving a 1996 Plymouth Neon in the same lane and direction towards the bicyclist when he allowed the right front end of the vehicle to collide with the back of the ten-speed.
The woman was subsequently ejected from her bicycle and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. She was 54 years old. The driver was arrested for Felony Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol.

Awful. So sorry for her family and friends. Is the DUI driver a first timer???
Condolences to the family. Pray for a swift and real justice and hopefully some peace.
I can’t think of anything worse than to be dragged down by a drunk in a car. I shivered when I read this. I’ll think of her on my next ride and hope that noise I hear coming up behind me is not the last thing I hear. RIP
did he even know he’d hit someone?
Nightmare scenario.
