Organizers declared the first annual Row With Champions Regatta, held Saturday at San Pablo Reservoir, a splashing success.

Spectators mingled with couldn’t-care-less anglers as more than two-dozen eight-seat racing sculls competed for bragging rights. No overall champion was crowned, however, as winds kicked up, turning waters turned choppy enough that officials called off the runoff race.
Onlookers were treated to live music from local bands, several ethnic food trucks and a baked-goods van, whose wares quickly sold out. Equipment and experienced rowers, who guided the amateur oar-pullers in each boat, were provided by Oakland Strokes. The rowing club, which has won national tournaments, will share proceeds from the fundraiser with Lamorinda Sunrise Rotary.
