Of 1,117 Drivers Contacted – Two Arrested For DUI In Walnut Creek Saturday

Here’s a breakdown of results from the weekend’s DUI checkpoint in Walnut Creek. WCPD also wants you to know about the costs associated with a first time misdemeanor DUI conviction:

On Saturday August 15th, the Walnut Creek Police Department (WCPD) in conjunction with the Center for Human Development (CHD) hosted a sobriety checkpoint on Lawrence Way from 9pm until 2am.

A total of 1117 cars drove through the checkpoint. Of those, 1060 drivers were contacted by officers explaining the reason for the checkpoint. Six of those drivers were pulled aside to ensure they were safe to drive. Of those six, two were arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

WCPD would like to thank all those contacted at the checkpoint who offered their encouragement on our efforts to keep the streets safe from impaired drivers. Research shows up to a 20% decrease in DUI deaths, injuries and crashes when checkpoints are conducted. The primary goal of a checkpoint is not to arrest people, it’s to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the street. Because checkpoints are highly publicized (and mandated by law to be advertised), it is the perceived risk of being caught that keeps many drunk drivers off the roadways.

  1. wow……. stopping all those people to arrest two. What a joke. How much did that cost? They should just pull anyone over for no reason and check ID, blood work, and checking account balance. #NaziGermany
