Firefighters responding to reports of a grass fire with cars involved in the parking lot of the Kaiser Mental Health facility at 710 S. Broadway in Walnut Creek got more than they bargained for upon arrival.

Police shut down the intersections surrounding the building shortly after the fire was reported at 3:08 p.m. Saturday. Firefighters found five cars ablaze with damage to three others. The blaze was declared under control at 3:15 p.m.

No cause was given. Police were investigating the incident Saturday evening but initial findings indicated that no crime was committed.

  1. Was the Fire Saturday? The article says Friday in the title and Saturday later on. I was there in that parking lot Friday at 3:30.
