Contra Costa County Fire Protection district units, supported by firefighters from Moraga-Orinda put down a fire on the third floor of a three-story apartment complex on Risa Rd. in Lafayette Friday.

Several fire units responded to the blaze at the Acalanes Apartments, 962 Risa Rd., and were met by smoke and flames from a room on the top floor of the complex.

District spokesman Robert Marshall said the fire was reported at 2:49 p.m. and declared under control at 3:12 p.m. but not before the blaze displaced an adult, child, and two dogs living in the apartment.

The Red Cross was asked to help relocate the occupants while firefighters worked to salvage what belongings they could. Marshall said the cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
