Firefighters responded to a blaze reported at a home in the 700 block of Augusta Drive in the Moraga Country Club Monday – the second structure fire Moraga-Orinda Fire District personnel have faced in a week.

Monday’s blaze was reported at 787 Augusta at around 8:23 p.m., the occupants evacuating the residence as firefighters arrived to heavy smoke and flame from the garage area. Firefighters went on the offensive and quickly extinguished the blaze, without apparent injury to firefighters or the home’s occupants.

MOFD Fire Chief Stephen Healy said Tuesday that the fire started in the garage and caused an estimated $200,000 in damage.

Healy said the cause of the fire was most likely electrical in nature and that “MOFD Firefighters saved the house.”

Firefighters have been busy throughout The Numbers this week, with MOFD fire crews responding to reports of a home on fire on Joseph Drive Tuesday evening, battling a wind-whipped blaze that caused extensive damage to the home and briefly threatened a neighboring residence before it could be brought under control.
