Local realtor Robert Pohl, 64, has been identified as the man killed by a gunshot wound to the chest behind a Concord gun club Wednesday.
Pohl was found with a gunshot wound to the chest outside United Sportsmen Inc. on Evora Road in unincorporated Concord around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to Jimmy Lee, spokesman for the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office.
Pohl was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lee.
The initial investigation determined the death was “non-criminal,” Lee said. The cause of the shooting has not been released.
Pohl worked as a real estate agent with Bay Sotheby’s International Realty based in Danville.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, according to Lee. Anyone with any information about the case can contact the sheriff’s office at 313-2600.
I once attempted to rent a pistol at a gun range, but was not allowed to do so because I could not prove I already owned a handgun. I thought it was an odd policy, until the clerk explained that they did not want to be easy providers of guns to people feeling suicidal.
This story reminded me of that experience. I wonder if this (seeming) tragedy is related.
We are aware of this policy, Chris, and of cases where rented firearms have been used for on-range suicides. The investigation into whether this death was a suicide or accidental continues.
