County firefighters raced to encircle a tricky, fast-moving grass fire believed to have destroyed at least one outbuilding and possibly a recreational vehicle before firefighters were able to encircle the blaze in Martinez Tuesday.

Police appeared to have caught first sight of the blaze, reported advancing on a structure in the 800 block of Howe Road at about 10:45 a.m. Responding firefighters noted a column of smoke during their approach and called for a second alarm upon arrival – at least one structure heavily involved in smoke and flame.

Firefighters maneuvered to head off the blaze as it advanced on structures in the 2400 block of Morello Heights Road.

As of 11:31 a.m., there were no initial reports of any injuries related to the blaze. We’ll have more on this story as details become available.
