Supporters of the Rheem Theatre used a GoFundMe account in an effort to secure enough private donations to keep the local landmark alive for two months – while a local non-profit foundation gets organized.
As of this morning the account had pushed past a stated $5,000 goal after a considerable donation from a private source.
The GoFundMe page can be found HERE.
So 5,000 dollars now and 4.5 million to acquire?
Let me get out the calculator on this one.
I wish them luck. I’m not hopeful – but I wish them luck!!
We’ll be watching. The community will decide either way.
I love having this theater in Moraga and use it regularly. But come on, raising $5000 is going to reverse a fundamental, multi-year trend of demographics, multi-plex theaters and streaming video?
Good question, James, that has yet to be answered. We found they weren’t fond of LiveStreaming, that’s for sure, but our ties to the Rheem go deep and we’re interested in seeing what happens. The market will ultimately determine the building’s fate, we believe. Perhaps some corporate sponsorship will save it? We’ll see…
More than half way already!!!! wooohoooo!
