WALNUT CREEK: Local Burglars Continue Game of “Tag” With Police, Lose…

The uptick in property crimes up and down the 24/680 Corridor continued Thursday but was dented slightly when a trio of suspected burglars attracted police attention after allegedly burglarizing a home on Arkell road in Walnut Creek.

Police were responding to the burglary report when they spotted a white Cadillac reportedly connected to the burglary leaving the area with three people aboard. They gave chase when the driver, identified as Brenda Vascones, 25, of Concord, sped away.

Officers followed the car to an area not far from the Pleasant Hill BART station, where eyewitnesses told NEWS24-680 that it sideswiped an occupied car, continued on – nearly hitting pedestrians in the area – and eventually came to a halt when “the driver had nowhere else to go.” Vascones, a passenger identified as Omar Garcia, 19, also of Concord, and an unidentified third man abandoned the car and fled into the surrounding neighborhood.

Vascones and Garcia were captured and arrested. The third person has yet to be found.

Danville Police Chief Steve Simpkins told NEWS24-680 just hours before the pursuit and arrests that a localized “crew” of thieves, believed to be from the Concord area, were suspected in a series of crimes in his town and elsewhere in the corridor in recent weeks.
