Lafayette police report that burglars disabled a telephone-linked alarm system to a home in the 3200 block of Sweet Drive Wednesday, smashing through a rear sliding glass door to gain entry and ransack the residence.
Various items were taken, according to police, including jewelry. The bedrooms appeared to have been targeted as the thieves searched for valuables. Police said the burglary occurred sometime between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Investigators issued an appeal to neighbors who may have seen suspicious persons or vehicles in the neighborhood during those hours. The homeowner reported that a woman came to the home in the hours before the burglary asking for directions – which may have been a ruse used to assess the home’s security, police said.
They reminded homeowners that thieves are accessing the backyards of homes through unsecured side gates and then making entry through glass doors, often smashing the door or window with an item close at hand.
So people without jobs are coming to neighborhoods where people do and rob them while they are at work. Life can be so unfair.
I don’t know, it sounds to me like at least one of these ass hats has experience in telecommunications. It would take some knowledge to disable that alarm.
Rottweilers. Hungry ones. They are the best alarm systems!
Cellular back-up for the alarm system.
Second one in that same area in in the last week I think. Seems like we need a greater police presence. Criminals have been able to target Lamorinda without impunity over the last several months.
All temporary workers right outside our home from 3200-3500 Sweet Drive should be investigated- they were there doin sewer work, tree trimming and road repair. I did not like scrutiny from them, coming and going. I found one at top of my driveway staring into our back yard. I walked up to street and he moved up the street a bit – I walked him up two more houses. I’m sure he got the message. This was all in past two weeks
Sure sounds like the same people that hit our area in April.. they are just moving around.
They’re definitely nomadic, Alicia. What’s your “area,” in general terms? Lafayette? WC? Alamo?
