An 18-year-old girl riding her bike across the street from Walt Disney Elementary School fell and suffered a head injury Wednesday morning, according to San Ramon police.

Corporal Randy Ritter said the accident was initially reported as an auto versus bicyclist crash at 10:51 p.m., but that upon further investigation officers were able to determine the girl, who is from San Ramon, suffered a head injury after crashing her bike in the 3200 block of Pine Valley Road.

“No vehicle was involved,” Ritter said. “The victim in this case doesn’t remember the accident. We’re not sure if the chain came off her bike or something else caused her to fall.” Passersby who saw the girl on the ground were distraught and upset by the scene, and administrators at Walt Disney Elementary School across the street hurriedly brought children back into their classrooms.

The teen was transported by REACH air ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where she is being treated for concussion.
