Lafayette police are looking for help identifying the model and year of this car.

Lafayette police are seeking information and – possibly – video from the public regarding a recent residential burglary in the city in which the suspected thieves made their getaways in a distinctive BMW.

Police report that theft occurred April 30 at 1:52 p.m. in the 3100 block of Somerset Drive when a neighbor reported a black male about 19 years of age leave a home with a bag and run to a waiting car believed to be a bright blue BMW SUV, possibly an X3 type, waiting at the curb.

Police say the car was driven by a second suspect, who immediately sped from the area on Somerset towards Burton Drive. Investigators found that the home had been extensively ransacked after the thief or thieves broke a rear glass door and made entry there.

Further investigation determined that another suspicious car, described as a gold in color Acura occupied by two women, had also been in the area at the time of the break-in and left the neighborhood in the same direction as the BMW.

Police are looking for public help in helping to identify the year and model of the SUV pictured with this story (this is not a photo of the car used in the burglary) and that anyone with a camera system in the area of Burton/Glenside Drive check their data storage for image captures of either vehicle between 1:45 p.m. and 1:55 p.m. on April 30.

The suspects are believed to have been in the neighborhood after 1:20 p.m.
