Taylor Alyssa Lai, a seventh grader at The Seven Hills School in Walnut Creek, took the time-honed line about making it to New York’s famed Carnegie Hall to heart, apparently – she’s playing the venerable venue in June.
Lai, a flutist, was selected for the 2015 Middle School Honors Performance Series. She will perform with the Honors Junior Band, one of three honors ensembles along with Choir and Orchestra. Needless to say you have to be proficient to be invited, participation in the ensemble is limited to the highest rated middle school performers from across North America and select schools internationally.
She joins performers from across the country, Canada, and several foreign countries for the Saturday, June 27 performance.
Asked about her selection and pending visit to the Big Apple, Lai responded as any true trouper would: “I am grateful to be a Junior Finalist and glad to have the opportunity to learn from world-renowned conductors and works with other Junior Finalists,” she said. “I can’t wait to get a taste of New York City, and I feel happy to be able to share what I learn from this experience with my community here in the Bay Area.”
The June 27 performance is open to the public. Tickets are available for sixty days prior through the Carnegie Hall box office. Since Michael’s Pub is no longer in business, we wondered if Taylor would be dropping in to the Bar Montparnasse for a duet with Woody but we don’t think she’d be able to get in.
