Two people were injured in this crash in front of Joaquin Moraga Intermediate early Monday.

Two people were injured in a grinding two-car crash on Madsen Ct. in front of Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School in Moraga early Monday.

Police said a red Honda Civic traveling east on Camino Pablo apparently crossed the center divide and struck a pickup truck pulling out of Madsen onto Camino Pablo. The crash was reported at 5:22 a.m.

A 65-year-old man behind the wheel of the pickup was knocked unconscious by the collision and the 23-year-old driver of the Honda complained of pain after his vehicle suffered major front end damage in the crash.

It is unknown at this point why the eastbound vehicle crossed over the center line, police said, and it has yet to be determined if the driver possibly fell asleep or if there was another explanation.

Both drivers were taken to local hospitals. There was no immediate word on their conditions.

  1. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often with dark tree-lined streets. Sounds like the driver of the civic may have been distracted by something.
