The age-old image of the town drunk
hanging on to a lamppost for dear life after a boozy night out has acquired a quaint appeal over the years.
But modern day lamppost fanciers will now be able to “adopt” a standard of their own – for a $500 fee – and have their name emblazoned on a plaque and fixed to the base of their favorite downtown light without having to reach for the Bromo the next morning.
Walnut Creek Downtown announced Tuesday that any of the city’s downtown light standards – those between Newell Street to Civic Center Drive and N. California Street to Broadway Street – is currently up for “adoption.”
“We think Walnut Creek residents will have fun with this program and hope it will inspire them to become more involved with their downtown,” said Byron Best, the group’s executive director.
