Firefighters from Oakland Fire and the Moraga-Orinda Fire District battled a smoky fire in the eastbound, righthand bore of the Caldecott Tunnel Monday. It’s dirty, dark work – and someone has to do it.

The bore was reopened to traffic shortly after 11 a.m. No injuries were reported though commuters fled the tunnel at the sight of smoke and flame.
Scary event considering we’re just a few weeks away from the anniversary of the Caldecott tunnel fire that killed several people.
