Danville police teamed with officers from San Ramon to track and capture a suspected car thief after a brief pursuit on San Ramon Valley Blvd. Sunday evening.

San Ramon police located and arrested Eric Ballesteros, 27, of Pleasanton after he allegedly led Danville police on a wrong-way chase and later abandoned a stolen white Acura in a San Ramon business park.

Lt. Allan Shields said the incident kicked off at 10 p.m. on San Ramon Valley Boulevard near Midland Drive when an officer conducted a traffic stop on the Acura, which had been reported stolen in Pleasanton earlier in the evening. As the officer approached the vehicle on foot it sped away southbound on San Ramon Valley Boulevard. A brief chase ensued but the driver crossed over into oncoming traffic and the pursuit was terminated by police for safety reasons.

The car was found a short time later and Ballesteros was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, eluding police by driving in the opposite lane of traffic and probation violation. He was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility where he is being held without bail.
