While people may appear more interested in building modern mega-homes, a dedicated band of historians is taking steps – and offering to take people back to 1849 at least for one evening – in an effort to save Lamorinda’s beleaguered Moraga Adobe.
Friends of the structure, still standing despite assaults by local vandals, encroaching development and metal thieves, are holding a hands-on cooking experience featuring Orinda Chef Charles Vollmar and benefitting Don Joaquin Moraga’s former home. The evening will be a unique chance to learn about authentic ingredients and classic preparations as participants work together to prepare a festive meal from scratch and finish by, well, eating it.
The multi-course buffet will be prepared and paired with period varietal wines and classic beverages, this being California and all, with all proceeds from the $95 ticket going directly to support the Friends of the Joaquin Moraga Adobe and their efforts to preserve the Adobe for future generations.
Dinner is planned for March 22 at Epicurean Exchance in Orinda.
